Getting Started

Word First locks the apps you choose using Apple's Screen Time system. Each morning, those apps stay locked until you complete your devotional reading. When the candle timer runs out, your apps unlock automatically. It's that simple — the Word first, then the world.
An iPhone running iOS 17 or later. No account required, no sign-up, no email. Just download, complete the brief setup, and you're ready for tomorrow morning.
Yes. All devotional content is bundled with the app — over 372 readings, the full KJV Bible, and 490+ prayers are available completely offline. You never need an internet connection to read or pray.
Yes. Tap the Settings icon in the app and select "Manage Apps" to update your selection at any time. Changes take effect the next morning.
In Settings, tap "Reading Time" to choose between 5, 10, 15, or 30+ minutes. You can also set what time your apps lock each morning — handy if you don't wake up at the same time every day.

Subscription & Billing

New subscribers get 3 days free. You'll have full access to everything. If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged anything. After 3 days, your chosen plan begins automatically.
Go to iPhone Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Word First → Cancel Subscription. You'll retain access until the end of your current billing period. We can't process cancellations directly — it must be done through Apple.
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Word First charge, and submit a refund request. Apple typically processes refund requests within a few days.
Yes. Go to iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Word First, and choose your preferred plan. The change takes effect at the start of your next billing period.
Not currently. Each device and Apple ID requires its own subscription. Family sharing support is something we're considering for a future update.

App Blocking

App blocking uses Apple's Family Controls framework, which is the same underlying system as iOS Screen Time. This requires explicit permission to control your own device. We request "individual" authorization — this is your choice for your device only, not parental controls.
You can always remove the restrictions through iPhone Settings → Screen Time. The app is built on your consent — there's no lock you can't remove. If you override it, that's between you and God.
App blocking requires a physical iPhone — it does not work on iPad or in the Simulator. Make sure you've completed the full onboarding and granted Screen Time permission. If issues persist, try removing and re-granting permission in Settings → Screen Time → Word First.
No. Word First uses individual authorization, which applies only to the device of the person using the app. It's designed as a personal spiritual discipline tool, not parental controls.

Readings & Content

Readings are selected based on a seeded daily algorithm — you'll get a different reading every day for over a year without repeating. If you set a Focus Topic, readings from that topic are prioritized. After 3 days, you'll be gently prompted to refresh your topic.
Daily devotional readings use the NIV (New International Version). The built-in Bible reader uses the KJV (King James Version), which is bundled fully offline at no extra charge.
Every reading includes a Go Deeper section with original language word study (Hebrew for Old Testament, Greek for New Testament), historical context, and insights modern readers often miss. It's optional — it's there when you want it, and out of the way when you don't.
Save any verse by tapping the heart icon during a reading. In the Saved tab, you can practice memorization using a word-reveal system — words are progressively blanked out as you build recall. It's designed around Psalm 119:11: "I have hidden your word in my heart."
The Prayer Library includes 490+ prayers from dailyprayers.com, organized by topic, plus 8 significant Biblical prayers (the Lord's Prayer, Prayer of Jabez, Hannah's prayer, and others). All content is bundled offline.

Technical Issues

Try force-closing the app (swipe up and hold → swipe Word First away) and relaunching. If that doesn't help, delete and reinstall the app — your subscription is tied to your Apple ID and will be restored automatically. If issues persist, email us at support@landrunbrands.com with your iOS version and device model.
Reading progress is stored locally on your device. If you reinstall the app, previous history will not be restored — this is intentional, as we don't sync data to any server. Make sure you're reading for the full committed time before closing the app.
Open the Word First app once to refresh the widget data. Widgets update when the app is opened. If the verse still looks stale, try removing and re-adding the widget from your home screen.
Check that notifications are enabled: iPhone Settings → Word First → Notifications → Allow Notifications. Also make sure your reading schedule is set within the app. If Focus Mode or Do Not Disturb is active, Word First notifications may be suppressed.
Word First requires iOS 17.0 or later. The app is built with SwiftUI and SwiftData, which require iOS 17. App blocking requires a physical iPhone — it does not function on iPad or in testing environments.

Privacy & Data

Nothing. Word First has no user accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs that collect data. Your reading history, saved verses, and reflections live only on your device and are never transmitted anywhere.
No. The app-blocking functionality operates entirely within Apple's Screen Time system. We have no visibility into which apps you select, how long you've blocked them, or any other Screen Time data.
Completely. Your reading history, reflections, saved verses, and prayer notes are stored only in SwiftData on your iPhone. They are not backed up to our servers (we have none), not synced to iCloud, and not accessible to anyone but you.
No. We collect nothing, so there's nothing to sell. The business model is a straightforward subscription. No ads, no data brokering, no hidden monetization. Just you and God, every morning.
